WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's rowing program has named seniors Lauren Carlo (Crofton, Md.), Kelsey Marakovits (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Bridget Schirripa (Lexington, Mass.) as its 2013-2014 captains.
Carlo was a member of the varsity eight for all 13 regattas during the 2012-2013 season, as the varsity eight had a strong season. The Crusaders defeated George Mason and Rutgers, while HC took the victory over Boston College and UConn to win the Irving-Christensen Cup. The varsity eight placed second out of 34 boats at the Knecht Cup and started the spring season with a win versus Smith. During the fall season, the Crusaders placed first in the club eight race out of 17 boats at the Textile River Regatta, finished first out of 48 boats at the Snake Regatta, placed second in the club eight race out of 34 boats at the Head of the Charles Regatta and finished third in the open eight race out of 27 boats at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.
Carlo was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and is a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.
Both Marakovits and Schirripa were members of the second varsity eight in all nine spring regattas this season. The second varsity eight placed second at the Patriot League Championship, which was the best ever result for a Holy Cross second varsity eight boat at the Patriot League Championship. The second varsity eight also defeated Smith in a dual-race, while it placed first in a race versus Rutgers and George Mason.
Marakovits is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Marakovits also rowed for the second varsity eight as a sophomore and rowed for the varsity four that placed third at the Patriot League Championship as a freshman.
Schirripa earned AT&T Crusader of the Week accolades as a sophomore. She has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice and is also a two-year member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.
