Women’s Rowing Announces 2014 Spring Schedule

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross athletic director Nathan Pine, and rowing program director and head women's rowing coach Patrick Diggins have announced the women's schedule for the 2014 spring season. The Crusaders are scheduled to compete in eight regattas with three taking place on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.

Holy Cross will kick off the season on March 29, with the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia, Pa. The Crusaders will then take on UMass and Patriot League opponent Colgate (April 5) on Lake Quinsigamond, while they will then race MIT and Rutgers on the Charles River (April 6). On April 12 and 13, the Crusaders will travel to Mercer County, N.J. to compete in the Knecht Cup on Mercer Lake. The next contest will take place on April 19 with the Christensen Cup on Lake Quinsigamond. The Crusaders will compete against Boston College and Connecticut. On April 27 the Crusaders will travel back to New Jersey for a rematch with Rutgers in New Brunswick.

The EAWRC Sprints will be held May 4 in Camden, N.J. The Patriot League Championship will follow on May 17 on Lake Quinsigamond.

The winner of the Patriot League Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, which will take place May 30- June 1 in Indianapolis, Ind.

The women's rowing team competed in four regattas during the fall 2013 season. The Crusaders placed third in the club eight race at the Textile River Regatta and finished third out of 22 boats at the Snake Regatta. At the Head of the Charles Regatta, the Crusaders placed 29th out of 45 boats in the club four race, 12th out of 29 boats in the club eight race and 37th out of 39 boats in the championship eight race. At the head of the Schuylkill Regatta, Holy Cross posted three top-five finishes. The open four placed second out of 40 boats, the freshman eight finished fifth out of 33 boats. Holy Cross "B" finished fifth out of nine in the open doubles race, while the open championship eight placed eighth out of 20 boats. Holy Cross also finished 13th out of 40 boats in the open club eight race.
