WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's rowing team placed sixth out of nine teams at the 2014 Patriot League Championship on Friday on Lake Quinsigamond to conclude its season. Boston University (49 points) won the team championship and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Navy (45 points) was second, Bucknell (43 points) was third, MIT (38 points) placed fourth, Georgetown (33 points) was fifth, the Crusaders (21 points) placed sixth, Lehigh (18 points) was seventh, Colgate (17 points) placed eighth and Loyola (Md.) (6 points) was ninth.
The Patriot League Championship is scored on a weighted system. Points are greatest for the varsity eight race with totals of 27-24-21-18-15-12-9-6-3 by position, while the second varsity eight is scored at 18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2 and the finishers in the varsity four race get scored 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
The varsity eight placed third in its heat out of four boats to earn a spot in the grand final. Georgetown (7:29.918) placed first, Bucknell (7:30.980) was second, the Crusaders (7:48.787) were third and Lehigh (7:54.786) was fourth. Boston University (7:14.580) won the grand final, Bucknell (7:18.467) was second, MIT (7:19.612) was third, Navy (7:21.845) was fourth, Georgetown (7:27.287) was fifth and the Crusaders (7:29.489) were sixth.
The second varsity eight was fourth in its heat out of four boats. Bucknell (7:41.783) placed first, Navy (7:48.888) was second, Lehigh (7:55.834) was third and Holy Cross (8:04.810) was fourth. Colgate (8:12.785) won the petite final, while the Crusaders (8:28.182) placed second and Loyola (9:16.610) was third.
The varsity four placed second in its heat out of five boats to qualify for the grand final. Navy (8:37.529) was first, the Crusaders (8:49.593) were second, MIT (8:55.820) was third, Bucknell (9:02.615) was fourth and Loyola (10:42.99) was fifth. Navy (8:23.310) won the grand final, while Boston University (8:30.353) was second, MIT (8:41.193) was third, Georgetown (8:51.651) was fourth, the Crusaders (9:03.684) were fifth and Lehigh (9:19.948) was sixth.
