WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team was selected to finish eighth in the 2011 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. Army claimed the top spot with 93 points and 10 first-place votes, followed by Colgate, which garnered 79 points and four first-place votes. Defending champion Lehigh was close behind with 75 points and the last two remaining first-place ballots. Coming in fourth was Navy with 55 points, followed by Bucknell with 52. Rounding out the poll were American (46 points) in sixth, Lafayette (25) in seventh and Holy Cross (23) in eighth.
The Crusaders return 21 players from last year's squad and welcome six newcomers to the team. Holy Cross kicks off the 2011 season on Thursday, August 25 with a 7:00 p.m. game at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium against Hartford.
