WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross freshman Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) has been named the Patriot League Brine Goalkeeper of the week for the first time in her career after two standout performances in goal this past weekend at the Fairfield Women's Soccer Invitational. McCabe was the wall in front of the net that led Holy Cross to a 1-1 record at the tournament.
McCabe tallied 10 saves in Friday's 2-0 victory over Central Connecticut, the first victory and shutout of her young career, and stopped 11 more as the Crusaders fell in a hard-luck 1-0 loss to Fairfield on Sunday. For the week, McCabe logged a .913 save percentage while making 21 saves and allowing a pair of goals for a 0.67 goals-against average. Her biggest save of the week came in the second half of Friday's match against the Blue Devils. With Holy Cross leading 1-0, she made a save on a penalty kick opportunity to preserve the lead and the shutout in the eventual victory.
The women's soccer team is back in Worcester and is preparing to host the Bryant Bulldogs on Wednesday, September 14. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
