WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior forward Cassie Muzik (Massapequa, N.Y.) has been named the BRINE Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for games played Aug. 13-19, as announced by the league. Muzik posted the first two goals of her collegiate career in the season opening 4-1 victory over Wagner (Aug. 19). This is the first BRINE Offensive Player of the Week award of Muzik's career and the first time any Crusader has earned the honor since the 2009 season.
Muzik's first career goal came at the 22:30 mark to tie the game, 1-1. She blasted a high strike into the top right corner of the goal, sparking the Crusader comeback. Her second tally came on a low grounded shot that snuck past the diving goalkeeper and just inside the left goalpost 49 seconds into the second half, giving Holy Cross a two-goal lead, 3-1. After one game, Muzik is tied for the team lead in points with four.
Muzik has also been named Women's Soccer Patriot League Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, a website that identifies the highest impact players nationally and from each conference in a weekly feature.
Holy Cross (1-0-0) returns to action on Friday, Aug. 24, when it hosts Providence at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
