Women's Soccer Shuts Out Rhode Island, 1-0
KINGSTON, R.I. – Sophomore goalkeeper Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) made seven saves as the Holy Cross women's soccer team recorded a 1-0 road victory over Rhode Island on Tuesday evening. The Crusaders are now 2-2-1 on the season while the Rams hold a record of 4-2.
Despite being outshot in the first half by a tally of 8-1, the Crusaders lone shot-on-goal broke the scoreless tie at the 22:17 mark. Freshman Annie Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) broke free, dribbling into the penalty box and beating Rams goalkeeper Reilly Lindsey one-on-one with a low shot into the right side of the net for her second goal of the season.
Holy Cross relied on its defense to preserve the victory in the second half. McCabe remained solid in net, making a big save with just 8:29 remaining off a shot by Rhode Island's Lucy Gildein. With the victory, McCabe is now 1-1-1 on the 2012 season while Lindsey moves to 2-2.
Holy Cross will return home on Sunday, Sept. 9, to take on Fairfield at 3:00 p.m. at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
