Women's Soccer Defeats Delaware State, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Megan Greineder (East Greenwich, R.I.) tallied her first two collegiate points as the Holy Cross women's soccer team defeated Delaware State on Sunday afternoon at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium by a score of 3-0. The Crusaders are now 3-4-1 on the season while the Hornets fall to 0-6-0.

The Crusaders got on the board first just over 22 minutes into the game when Greineder sent a perfect cross to fellow freshman Annie Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) who netted her team-high third goal of the season. Just over seven minutes later, with 15:41 remaining, Greineder fired a shot from 20 yards out that was partially blocked by a Hornets defender. The ball bounced directly to sophomore Gina Righini (Salem, N.H.), who beat Delaware State goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky from six yards out for her second goal of the season. The Crusaders put four shots on goal in the first half and led 2-0 after 45 minutes of action.

Holy Cross continued to pressure the Hornets in the second half, adding a third goal just 6:53 into the second half. Senior Maura Fox (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took a shot from a tough angle on the far side and chipped it over Koslosky into the near corner of the net for her second goal of the season. The Crusaders outshot Delaware State by a tally of 18-5 in the game and put nine shots on goal compared to the Hornets' three.

Sophomore goalkeeper Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) saved all three shots she faced to record her second shutout of the season and move to 2-1-1 on the year. Koslosky suffered the loss and moves to 0-6-0.

The Crusaders will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 7:00 p.m. to play New Hampshire at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The game will also be available online, on Crusader Vision.
