WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's soccer sophomore Ally Pasquariello (Suffield, Conn.) has been named the BRINE Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for games played Oct. 8-14, as announced by the league. Pasquariello tallied an assist on the Crusaders' game-winning goal in its 2-1 victory over Lafayette (Oct. 13) for her first career point. This is the first BRINE Defensive Player of the Week award of her career and the first time any Crusader has won the honor since the 2009 season.
Pasquariello dribbled the ball to midfield before sending a perfect pass to a streaking Gina Righini (Salem, N.H.) who took the ball in stride and beat the Leopards' goalkeeper on the far side to make the score 2-0 Holy Cross with 22:38 remaining. Lafayette would add its only goal with just under five minutes remaining as the Crusaders earned their sixth victory of the season by a tally of 2-1.
This is the fifth time a Crusader has been recognized by the league this season. Pasquariello joins junior Cassie Muzik (Massapequa, N.Y.) who was named BRINE Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 20, sophomore Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) who was named BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week on Aug. 27 and Oct. 1 and freshman Annie Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) who was named BRINE Rookie of the Week on Sept. 24.
Holy Cross (6-7-1, 2-2-0 Patriot League) returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 16, when it travels to Harvard for its final non-conference game of the season at 7:00 p.m.
