BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team traveled to Lehigh on Saturday afternoon for its final contest of the season, falling to the Mountain Hawks by a tally of 4-0. Junior forward Murphee Greeley scored the first and final goals as Lehigh ends the regular season with a record of 5-12-0 (3-4-0 Patriot League). The Crusaders finish up with a record of 6-11-1 (2-5-0 Patriot League).
Lehigh got on the board 23:58 into the game as Greeley dribbled the ball in from midfield and fired a left-footed shot past Crusader goalkeeper Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) into the top right corner of the net. Just over 10 minutes later, with 10:46 remaining in the half, sophomore Darby Wiegand avoided a charging McCabe to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead going into the locker room. Lehigh put seven shots on goal in the first frame compared to Holy Cross' three, with Crusader freshman Jenna Scanlon (Auburn, Mass.) recording two of those shots
Senior Ashlyn Angell (Raleigh, N.C.) entered the game in goal to start the second half as Lehigh kept the offensive pressure on. Just 8:22 in, junior Paige Dyrek laced a shot just inside the left post to increase the lead to 3-0. Greeley added her second goal of the game and team-high fifth goal of the year with 26:57 remaining from right in front off a hard pass to the left post from freshman Paige Elliott.
The Mountain Hawks outshot the Crusaders 22-8 in the game, including putting 16 shots on goal. Holy Cross junior Cassie Muzik (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the team with three shots. McCabe made five saves while Angell added seven for a total of 12. Lehigh freshman goalkeeper Ani Nahapentian stopped all four shots she faced to move to 3-4-0 on the season. McCabe suffered the loss and ends the season with a record of 5-7-1.
The Crusaders have concluded the 2012 season.
