WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. and head women's soccer coach Darren Gallagher have announced the Crusaders' schedule for the 2013 season. Holy Cross is scheduled to play a total of 18 games during the regular season, including two away games against first year Patriot League members, Boston University and Loyola.
The Crusaders open the 2013 season with an away game versus Maine in Portland, Maine on Aug. 23 and then travel to Wagner (Sept. 1). After a home contest against Manhattan at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium (Sept. 3), the Crusaders will play at Quinnipiac (Sept. 8), while they will then host Bryant (Sept. 10). Holy Cross will compete at the Fairfield Invitational and face Hartford (Sept. 13) and Fairfield (Sept. 15), followed by the first Patriot League contest at Loyola (Sept. 21), and return home to face New Hampshire (Sept. 25).
The Crusaders then face American (Sept. 28), followed by an away game versus Boston University (Oct. 2) and return home to face Lafayette (Oct. 5). Holy Cross will then travel to defending Patriot League champion and 2012 NCAA tournament participant Colgate (Oct. 12). The Crusaders return to Worcester for three final home matchups against UMass-Lowell (Oct. 15), Navy (Oct. 18) and Army (Oct. 23). Holy Cross then concludes the regular season with two away games versus Bucknell (Oct. 26) and Lehigh (Nov. 2).
For the first time this season, the top six teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the Patriot League Tournament. The No. 3 seed will face the No. 6 seed, and the No. 4 seed will face the No. 5 seed in the quarterfinals on Nov. 5 with the higher seed hosting each game. The tournament will then be re-seeded after the quarterfinals. The No. 1 seed will host the semifinals on Nov. 8 and the championship game on Nov. 10.
Last season, the Crusaders went 6-11-1 overall and 2-5 within the Patriot League. Holy Cross has 15 players returning, while welcoming six freshmen for the 2013 season.
