WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Gwen Reimer (Pottsville, Pa.) and junior captain Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.), members of the Holy Cross softball team, have been selected to the 2012 Patriot League Preseason All-Conference Teams, as announced by College Sports Madness.
Reimer was selected to the first team 2012 Patriot League Preseason All-Conference as an infielder. In 2011, Reimer batted .322 over her junior season, ranking fourth on the squad. The first baseman was solid defensively, leading the squad with a .989 fielding percentage after committing just four errors on the season. She was selected to the second team All-Patriot League for the first time in her career.
Fregenti was selected to the first team 2012 Patriot League Preseason All-Conference as a utility player. In 2011, Fregenti was named to the 2011 All-Patriot League tournament team. She led the Crusaders in the tournament with three RBI, knocking out two home runs and going two-for-five from the plate. She boasted a 1.600 slugging percentage. On the season, Fregenti finished third on the team with a .360 batting average. She hit a school single-season record 11 homeruns and also finished on top of the single-season records list in RBI (34) and slugging percentage (.691).
The Crusaders finished 18-31 last season, including 10 wins in conference action. The 10 wins were the most for the squad since 2003.
