Natalie Cruz Named Crusader Of The Week

WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) has been named the Crusader of the Week, for competition from April 28-May 4. Last week, Cruz hit .333 with two home runs and posted a 2-1 record in the circle, as the Holy Cross softball team split a four-game series at Colgate.

During the second game of the series with the Raiders on Wednesday, Cruz hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead, before Colgate came back to win 6-3. She then had an RBI triple in game three of the series on Thursday, as Holy Cross won 5-1. Finally, in the series finale Cruz drove in three runs, including a game-winning two-run homer in the ninth inning for the 12-10 victory.

In addition to her work at the plate, Cruz posted a 2-1 record as a pitcher in the series, with two starts and one relief appearance. She pitched a total of 13-1/3 innings against the Raiders, allowing just two earned runs and eight hits. During Thursday's twinbill, Cruz picked up victories in both ends of the doubleheader.

Cruz finished the 2008 season batting .250 with two home runs, 11 runs scored and 14 runs batted in. She also posted a .321 on-base percentage and a .396 slugging percentage. As a pitcher, Cruz went 3-14 on the year with a 4.62 earned run average and a team-best 44 strikeouts in 92-1/3 innings.

The Crusaders posted an overall record of 10-31 in 2008, with a 5-15 mark in the Patriot League.
