Two Crusaders Named To All-Patriot League Teams

May 6, 2008

Center Valley, Pa. - The 2008 All-Patriot League softball teams were announced on Tuesday afternoon, with Holy Cross placing both senior first baseman Kelly O'Neil (White Plains, N.Y.) and freshman second baseman Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.) on the teams. The All-Patriot League teams were voted on by the head coaches of the league's six softball teams.

O'Neil was named to the first team All-Patriot league list, after she hit .276 this year with a team-best 25 runs batted in and a school single season record tying five home runs. She also posted a .989 fielding percentage on the season, with just three errors in 280 total chances. O'Neil finished her career with 53 runs batted in and a school record 15 home runs. The old Holy Cross career record for homers was 13, set by Megan Lally from 2003-2006.

Fleming was selected second team All-Patriot, after leading the team with a .346 batting average on the year. She totaled a team-best 46 hits, including nine doubles, two triples and two homers, while posting a .489 slugging percentage and a .387 on-base percentage. Fleming currently ranks fourth in the Patriot League in batting, with the highest average of any freshman.

The Crusaders posted an overall record of 10-31 in 2008, with a 5-15 mark in the Patriot League.
