Mary Beth Ryan Named 2004-2005 Crusader Of The Year

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior outfielder Mary Beth Ryan (Holden, Mass.), a member of the Holy Cross softball team, has been selected as the 2004-2005 Crusader of the Year. The award was presented at the 51st Annual Varsity Club Dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Saturday, May 7.
A two-year team captain, Ryan earned first team All-Patriot League honors during her sophomore, junior and senior years. She led the team in several categories this season, including hitting (.384), at bats (125), runs (31), hits (48), doubles (12), slugging percentage (.544), on-base percentage (.442) and successfully completed all 10 attempted stolen bases. In league games, the outfielder was second on the team in hits (26) and tied for third in runs scored (16). She played in 169 career-games and ranks second all-time with 40 stolen bases and third with a .320 batting average. She also ranks first all-time with her .544 slugging-percentage this season, second with 150 at bats in 2003 and fourth with 148 at bats in 2002.
A 2004 CoSIDA second team Academic All-District selection, Ryan has been named to the Dean's List every semester, and has been selected as Valedictorian for the Holy Cross Class of 2005. Ryan has also served on the NCAA Reaccredidation Committee and the Student Advisory Council, in addition to taking part in Holy Cross Cares Day and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
