Women's Swimming And Diving Suffers 173.5-121.5 Loss To Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Kristen Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine) finished first in the 1,000 freestyle and 200 individual medley as the Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team lost to Springfield on the road, 173.5-121.5 on Saturday afternoon. Desrosiers finished the races with times of 11:06.25 and 2:18.63, respectively. She also finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.94.
Senior Katelyn Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine) and freshman Claire O'Brien (Bedford, N.Y.) also added first place finishes for the Crusaders. Katelyn Desrosiers touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:37.07 while O'Brien led the field in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.36. Katelyn Desrosiers also finished just behind her sister in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:22.37. O'Brien added a third place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.24.
Other top finishers for the Crusaders included freshman Brooke Larsen (Midlothian, Va.) who recorded second place finishes in the 1,000 freestyle (11:24.73) and 500 freestyle (5:37.95). Sophomore Katherine Shreve (Sturbridge, Mass.) took second in 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.06 and tied for second in the 200 butterfly at 2:24.83. Sophomore Mary Kate Schulte (Des Moines, Iowa) took second in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, touching the wall at 26.07 and 1:05.91, respectively. She also took third in the 100 freestyle (57.25). The 400 medley relay team comprised of O'Brien, Katelyn Desrosiers, Shreve and seniors Laura Webber (Hampden, Mass.) also finished second with a time of 4:20.05.
On the diving side, sophomore Teddie Massad (Westborough, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Crusaders, recording scores of 180.60 and 153.29 in the one and three-meter dives, respectively.
The women's swimming and diving team will return to the pool on Nov. 16-18 at the Terrier Invitational. The events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. each day.
