KINGSTON, R.I. – The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Rhode Island on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, for the Harold Anderson Invitational. The men's team was led by junior diver Nick Videtti (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) who won the one-meter dive and junior Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J.) who finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.51 and third in the 50 freestyle at 22.46. Yburan also added a seventh place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.61. The 200 freestyle relay team comprised of seniors Kristen Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine), Laura Webber (Hampden, Mass.) and Katelyn Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Mary Kate Schulte (Des Moines, Iowa) led the women's team with a 12th place finish and time of 1:44.77.
Other top performers for the men's team included senior Brian Power (Southport, Conn.) who took third in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.52), fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.55) and seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:03.56). Sophomore Jack Swain (West Hardford, Conn.) finished just behind Power in the 100 breaststroke in fifth place with a time of 1:02.38. Freshman David Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) took sixth place in the 1,000 freestyle (10:37.82), ninth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.20) and 10th in the 500 freestyle (5:07.64).
Freshman Matthew Bates (South Easton, Mass.) touched the wall in eighth place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:11.50 while fellow classmate Tyler Wright (Waterboro, Maine) finished 10th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:36.49. The 400 medley relay team comprised of Ybruan, Power, Wright and senior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.) earned the team-best relay finish, taking fourth place at 3:39.64. On the diving side, Videtti's winning score in the the one-meter dive was 235.20. He also placed third in the three-meter dive with a score of 224.70.
For the women's team, Kristen Desrosiers finished 16th in the 400 individual medley (4:55.78) and 21st in both the 200 backstroke (2:18.60) and 200 individual medley (2:19.54). Junior Cassandra Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Claire O'Brien (Bedford, N.Y.) each earned a 20th place finish in their respective events. Perry swam the 200 butterfly in 2:30.90 while O'Brien finished the 100 backstroke in 1:06.73. Sophomore Katherine Shreve (Sturbridge, Mass.) touched the wall in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:38.78.
On the women's diving side, sophomore Alicia LiCalzi (New Canaan, Conn.) took fourth in the three-meter dive (156.45) and fellow classmate Teddie Massad (Westborough, Mass.) finished eighth in the one-meter dive (158.40).
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to action on Jan. 18-19, 2013 for the Worcester City Championship.
