Maddie Alanis Named Crusader Of The Week

WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from January 23-29. Alanis led the Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team to a first place finish at the Worcester City Championship, held on January 27-28 at the Hart Center.

Alanis won all three individual events in which she competed at the Worcester City Championship, and also set a new meet record in each of the three events. She captured first place in the 1650 yard freestyle (18:56.32), the 400 yard individual medley (4:52.88) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:36.36).

Alanis also swam the second leg on the Crusaders' 200 yard medley relay team, which finished in first place with a meet record time of 1:57.56. In addition, she was a member of two other relay teams which finished in second place (200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay).

Following the conclusion of the meet, Alanis received the Cathy Desrosiers Award as the most valuable swimmer of the Worcester City Championship.

The Crusader women's swimming and diving team returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 31, when it plays host to Connecticut in a 6:00 p.m. meet at the Hart Center.
