Women's Tennis Starts Off Fall Season With 7-0 Sweep Of Regis
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's tennis team started the season off on the right foot, sweeping Massachusetts-based opponent Regis by the final 7-0 score at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. Every singles player won their match in straight sets, including four 6-0, 6-0 victories.
The squad started off with three straight 8-0 wins in doubles play. Sophomore Molly Montgomery (Winnetka, Ill.) and freshman Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) teamed up for the first time in the No. 1 doubles slot and came out with their first win.
Montgomery then won her No. 1 singles match, 6-0, 6-1 as Stathis swept her opponent in the No. 5 slot, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomores Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.) and Mary McAuliffe (Peru, N.Y.) also won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
Holy Cross will continue its fall slate against Worcester based opponent Anna Maria on Monday, Sept. 12. The matches will begin at 3:30 at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts.
