NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's tennis team came out victorious in five of the six singles matches and all three doubles matches, earning an 8-1 win over in-state opponent Smith at the Smith Tennis Courts. With the win, the Crusaders extend their win-streak to six matches and improve their overall record to 8-1 while Smith falls to 3-7. Sophomore Molly Montgomery (Winnetka, Ill.) picked up two victories on the day, winning the No. 1 singles match (6-1, 6-4) and the No. 1 double match (8-5) along with freshman Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.).
Stathis also won her No. 2 singles match (6-0, 6-1) for her second win on the day while senior Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) picked up multiple wins with victories at No. 2 doubles (8-4) and No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-4). Chandley joined fellow senior Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) for their ninth win together this season. Junior Jessica DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.) and senior Emma Rudnik (Lake Bluff, Ill.) also teamed up for a team-best 10th win at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-4. Sophomore Katie McKenna (Longmeadow, Mass.) concluded the team's highlights with her first singles win of the season, a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the No. 6 match.
Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, March 20 when it travels to play Stonehill. Matches are set for 3:00 p.m. in Easton, Mass.
