WEST POINT, N.Y. – Freshman Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) earned her first career Patriot League victory as the Holy Cross women's tennis team fell, 5-2, against Lafayette at Army's Malek Courts.With the decision, the Crusaders drop to a record of 10-4 (0-2 Patriot League) while the Leopards go to 5-8 (1-3 PL). Senior Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) also earned a victory on the day, tallying a win at No. 3 singles.
Lafayette swept all three doubles matches to earn the first point. Stathis then tallied the No. 1 singles victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Marr went three sets at No. 3, but won by the final 4-6, 6-4, 10-0 score. The Leopards finished with the final four singles victories at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to finish ahead by the final 5-2 tally. Sophomore Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.) took her No. 5 match to extra games, but eventually lost 7-6, 6-1.
Holy Cross wraps up league action against inner-city opponent Clark on Wednesday, April 18. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m. at the Corash Courts in Worcester, Mass.
