Women's Tennis To Begin 2012 Fall Season On Wednesday
Schedule: Wednesday, September 5 vs. Curry, Worcester, Mass., 3:30 p.m.
- The Holy Cross women's tennis team opens up its 2012 fall slate with a home match against Curry on Wednesday, September 5. Matches are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. on the Holy Cross Tennis Courts.
- This will be the first time the Crusaders and Colonels have faced one another in eight seasons of tennis. The Colonels were picked fifth in their CCC preseason poll and will play their first home match against Rhode Island College on Saturday, Sept. 1 before making the trip to Worcester.
- Fourth year head coach Lisa Meola returns with five members of the 2011-2012 team, losing four players to graduation. Senior Jessica DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.) will fill the leadership role. DeSimone was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, and went 2-0 at singles and 13-7 in doubles. The 13 doubles victories were the second highest on the team.
- Four other members on the 2011-2012 roster saw action last season as sophomore Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) looks to return to the No. 2 singles spot after going 10-6 as a freshman. Juniors Mary McAuliffe (Peru, N.Y.), Katie McKenna (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.) all look to play pivotal roles in the upcoming season as well.
