WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Carrie Simmons (Raynham, Mass.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from March 28-April 3. Simmons posted a 2-1 singles record and a 1-0 mark in doubles for the Holy Cross women's tennis team last week.
Last Friday, Simmons won both of her matches in the Crusaders' 6-1 victory over Merrimack. At No. 2 singles, she posted an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over Meghan Weller, while at No. 1 doubles, she teamed with sophomore Kerry Trimmer (Spring Lake, N.J.) for an 8-4 victory over Weller and Angela Fischer.
Simmons also played well in Sunday's Wheaton Invitational, advancing to the championship match at No. 2 singles. She posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kelsey Parente of Roger Williams in the semifinals, before dropping a tough 7-6, 6-2 match to Wheaton's Jamie Weiss in the final.
The Crusaders, who stand 2-3 in dual matches so far this spring, return to action on Wednesday, April 6, when they travel to Albany for a 3:30 p.m. match.
