WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from October 6-12. Chandley helped the Holy Cross women's tennis team to a pair of dual match victories and a fourth place finish at the New England Championship last week. She posted a 4-1 mark in singles and a 3-2 record in doubles on the week.
Playing at No. 6 singles, Chandley opened the week with a 6-0, 6-1, win over Katie Greenberg during the 6-1 victory over Hartford. Then in the 4-3 win at Stonehill, she downed Lindsay Simmons 6-4, 6-2. At the New England Championship, Chandley defeated Jenn Cusack of Providence 6-3, 6-2, in the opening round, then downed Caitlyn Savoy of Fairfield 6-4, 1-6, 7-5, in the semifinals. In the championship match, she fell to Brooke Hoover of Rhode Island 6-1, 6-2.
Chandley also partnered with freshman Emily Marr (Holden, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles, defeating Kara Pease and Nikki Haynal of Hartford 8-3, and Leah White and Bacall Brooks of Stonehill 8-4. At the New England Championship, Chandley and Marr downed Stellina Saia and Courtney Garvey of Merrimack 8-5 in the first round, before falling to Dana Postupack and Marisa Voloshin of Fairfield 8-2 in the semifinals. In the third place match, the Holy Cross duo dropped a close 9-8 decision to Darcy Demers and Kate Donnelly of Sacred Heart.
Overall this season, Chandley now stands 8-2 in singles and 6-4 in doubles.
The fall portion of the women's tennis team's 2008-2009 season is now complete.
