WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's track and field junior Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) has been named M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week and freshman Oona Wood (Williamstown, Mass.) has been named M-F Athletic Patriot League Female Rookie of the Week for their performances last Saturday at the Jay Carisella Invitational (12/1), as announced by the league.
Okpoebo won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.74 and placed third in the 200-meter dash in 25.02. The latter mark was an ECAC-qualifying time, while the former just missed the ECAC standard by six-one hundredths of a second. Okpoebo claims her first career M-F Athletic Female Athlete of the Week award.
Wood also earned her first honor by placing second in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:16.86, coming within a second of hitting the ECAC-qualifying standard. This is the first time since the 2010 indoor season that any Crusader has earned league recognition for her performance the previous week.
Select members of the women's indoor track and field team will return to action on Dec. 7 at the Rhode Island Pentathlon. The entire women's indoor track and field team is set to travel to the Harvard Open on Dec. 8.
