WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) and freshman setter Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) each recorded double-doubles for the second straight match as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Central Connecticut in the second match of the Beanpot Classic at the Holy Cross Field House, on Friday afternoon by scores of 25-13, 26-24 and 25-20. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 1-1 overall, while CCSU starts the season 0-1 overall. This is the second straight win by the Crusaders over Central Connecticut as before last year's Holy Cross win, CCSU had earned nine straight victories in the series. The win is also the first for first-year Holy Cross head coach Erin Walker.
Lynch posted her 29th career double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs as she also led the team with four aces. Stokes tallied 26 assists and 11 digs as she has recorded a double-double in her first two collegiate matches. Junior Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) led the Crusaders with 12 digs and junior Callie Black (Fallon, Nev.) led the team with five blocks. Freshman Heather Roberts (San Jose, Calif.) was solid with six kills and 10 digs as four Crusaders recorded double-digit digs. Senior Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) led the team with a .400 hitting percentage as she tallied six kills on 15 attempts. Freshman Alicia Swearingen (Springdale, Ark.) tallied five kills and freshman Julia Gould (Ridgewood, N.J.) recorded six digs.
CCSU was led by Emily Cochran who posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, while Danielle Gasser also tallied a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs.
The Crusaders return to action when they play Providence at the Holy Cross Field House on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 6:00 p.m.
