BOSTON, Mass. – Jillian Briner posted a double-double for the Huskies with 10 kills and 17 assists as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Northeastern, 3-0, at the Beanpot Classic at Solomon Court on Saturday by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-3 overall, while the Huskies improve to 2-0 overall.
Sophomore Alicia Swearingen (Springdale, Ark.) led the Crusaders with six kills, while senior Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) tallied five kills and now has 1,242 career kills. She is five kills away from setting a new school record. Senior Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) led the team with nine digs, while sophomore setter Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Crusaders with five blocks. Stokes and sophomore Julia Gould (Ridgewood, N.J.) each totaled eight digs.
Nicole Bishop also tallied double-digit kills for the Huskies with 10. Ina Kamenova led the Huskies with 21 assists, while Natalia Skiba posted 18 digs.
With the Huskies leading the first set by a 14-12 score, they then won 11 of the last 15 points to earn a 25-16 win. Briner and Kelly Bacon each posted four kills for Northeastern. The Huskies won the second set, 25-14, as Bishop tallied five kills. Stokes was strong at net for the Crusaders as she posted four blocks. Northeastern earned the sweep with a 25-18 third-set victory.
The Crusaders return to action when they compete at the Central Connecticut Invitational in New Britain, Conn., on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1. The Crusaders take on Brown on Friday at 7:00 p.m., while on Saturday, Holy Cross meets Central Connecticut at 1:00 p.m. and St. John's at 3:30 p.m.
