SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Alex Aycock (Jonesboro, Ark.) led the Crusaders with eight kills but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Northern Kentucky, 3-0, at the Hampton Inn Invitational hosted by Bryant at the Chace Athletic Center on Saturday morning by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-14. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-12 overall, while the Norse improve to 11-1 overall. The Crusaders will conclude play in the tournament on Saturday evening when they meet Bryant at 7:00 p.m.
Aycock posted a .353 hitting percentage and also led the team with two blocks. Junior Christiana Blakeslee (Ashtabula, Ohio) tallied 20 assists and senior captain Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) led the team with 16 digs. Sophomore Heather Roberts (San Jose, Calif.) posted seven kills and sophomore Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) had 10 digs.
The Norse were led by Shelby Buschur who tallied nine kills and a .529 hitting percentage. Jenna Schreiver had 32 assists and Kylee Tarantino posted 16 digs. Jenna Ruble led the team with five blocks.
Northern Kentucky won the first set by a 25-11 score as Kelly Morrissey led the way with four kills. The Norse took the second set, 25-17, as Buschur tallied five kills. Northern Kentucky earned the sweep by winning the third set, 25-14. Aycock tallied six kills for the Crusaders for the set, while Jayden Julian and Megan Wanstrath each posted three kills for the Norse.
