CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) tallied a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Harvard, 3-1, at the Malkin Athletic Center on Tuesday night by scores of 25-17, 25-11, 15-25 and 25-19. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-16 overall, while the Crimson improve to 3-9 overall.
Stokes now has three double-doubles on the season and 12 for her career. Senior captain Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) led the Crusaders with 16 kills, while she also posted seven digs. She now has 998 career digs. Sophomore Heather Roberts (San Jose, Calif.) led the team with 12 digs, while senior captain Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) also posted double-digit digs with 10. Senior Callie Black (Fallon, Nev.) led the team with four blocks.
The Crimson were led by Taylor Docter who posted a double-double with 13 kills and 20 digs. Harvard had three players with double-digit kills as Erin Cooney and Kathleen Wallace each tallied 11. Beth Kinsella led the team with 26 assists. Caroline Walters was strong at the net with eight blocks.
With the first set tied at 13-13, the Crimson won 12 of the last 16 points to earn the 25-17 win. Harvard posted a .316 hitting percentage in the second set as it won by a 25-11 score. Junior Alex Aycock (Jonesboro, Ark.) led the Crusaders with four kills for the set. With the Crusaders leading the third set, 21-15, they took the last four points for a 25-15 victory. Lynch led the team with seven kills and posted a .500 hitting percentage as the team hit .345 for the set. The Crimson tallied a .424 hitting percentage in the fourth to clinch the match with a 25-19 victory. With the set tied at 16-16, Harvard won nine of the last 12 points. Lynch led the Crusaders with five kills for the set.
The Crusaders return to action when they play two home Patriot League matches on Sept. 28-29 at the Holy Cross Field House. On Friday, the Crusaders will take on Colgate at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday they will meet Bucknell at 4:00 p.m. Both matches can be seen on Crusader Vision.
