Volleyball Falls To Colgate, 3-0

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Freshman Katie McKernan (Sylvania, Ohio) posted her team-best fifth double-double of the season but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Colgate, 3-0, at Cotterell Court on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action by scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-12. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-8 overall (1-2 PL), while the Raiders improve to 9-5 overall (2-0 PL).

McKernan led the team with eight kills, 11 assists and 11 digs. Freshman Natalie Welsch (Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied six kills and freshman Emily Popp (Clarkston, Mich.) totaled 10 digs.

Colgate was led by Kaylee Fifer who tallied a double-double with 19 assists and 10 digs. Diane Seely posted 12 kills, while Caitlin Cremin posted 11 digs.

The Raiders won the first set by a 25-13 score. Then with the second set tied at 22-22, Colgate won two straight points with a kill by Seely and an ace by Kathleen Harris. After sophomore Emily Oliver (Carlsbad, Calif.) extended the set with a kill, Lindsay Young secured the second set for the Raiders with a kill for the 25-23 win. The Raiders then clinched the match with a 25-12 third-set win.     

The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Oct. 4, when they travel to Washington, D.C., to take on Patriot League opponent American at 7:00 p.m.
