WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Alex Aycock (Jonesboro, Ark.) led the Crusaders with eight kills but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to American, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action on Senior Day at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 7-19 overall (2-12 PL), while the Eagles improve to 27-2 overall (12-1 PL).
Freshman Emily Popp (Clarkston, Mich.) led the team with 12 digs. Her 4.58 digs per set this year are currently ranked first all-time for a season in program history, while her 403 digs are fifth all-time. Freshman Katie McKernan (Sylvania, Ohio) posted 11 assists and six kills.
The Eagles were led by Kristyna Lindovska who tallied eight kills, while Monika Smidova posted 32 assists. Juliana Crum tallied 12 digs and Kelly McCaddin posted four blocks.
American won the first set by a 25-14 score as the Eagles led by as much as 12 points at 22-10. With American leading the second set 11-10, the Eagles then won 14 of the next 16 points to earn a 25-12 victory as they posted a .393 hitting percentage. With the third set tied at 13-13, American won 12 of the next 18 points to secure a 25-19 match-clinching win.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Nov. 15, when they play Patriot League opponent Lafayette in Easton, Pa., at 5:00 p.m.
Before today's match, Aycock was honored for her dedication to the team-on and off the court-over the past four years. Aycock has been a part of 32 wins during her career which are the most by a senior class since the 2004 class posted 33 victories. For her career she has posted 326 kills, 171 digs and 47 blocks. Her 326 kills are the most by any current member of the team. This season she is third on the team with a career-best 2.00 kills per set.
