NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Senior outside hitter Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) registered her fourth double-double of the season with 22 kills and 13 digs, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Central Connecticut, 3-1, by scores of 30-23, 28-30, 30-16 and 30-18 in non-conference action, on Wednesday night. Strawson now has 1,032 career kills and is 31 away from tying the school record. The record of 1,063 career kills is held by Caitlin Agostinacchio (2001-2004). With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-5 overall, while Central Connecticut improves to 5-2 overall.
Freshman setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 40 assists and eight digs on the night, while junior libero Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) led Holy Cross defensively with 16 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) had 11 kills as she has recorded double-digit kills in five of the Crusaders' seven matches.
Central Connecticut was led by Lauren Snyder's 19 kills and 11 digs, while Amanda Bayer had 55 digs.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday and Saturday, September 7-8, when they host the Crusader Classic at the Holy Cross Field House. On Friday, Holy Cross will play Coppin State at 7:00 p.m., while on Saturday it will face Loyola (Md.) at 12:30 p.m. and Hartford at 7:00 p.m.
