Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team posted its second win of the weekend at the Hart Recreation Center by defeating Patriot League rival Lafayette in four games (30-26, 27-30, 30-22, 30-24) Saturday evening.
The weekend sweep of league wins was the Crusaders' first in four years when they defeated the same two teams, Lafayette and Lehigh, during the 2000 campaign.
Senior setter Michelle Leahy (Andover, Mass.) posted 52 assists for a weekend tally of 108 sets. The senior also added a team-high 18 digs.
Senior Caitlin Agostinacchio (Bellmore, N.Y.), and freshman Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.), combined for 41 kills. Agostinacchio recorded a game-high 22 kills, while Strawson averaged 4.75 kills per game for a total of 19.
The Leopards were led by sophomore Veronica Canto-Ponce (La Jolla, Calif.), who tallied a double-double of 16 kills and 11 digs, freshman Michaela Donohue (Los Gatos, Calif.), who registered 22 digs, and a duo of setters, Katie Moore (St. Thomas, USVI) and Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill.), who combined for 38 assists. Moore recorded 18, while Olichwier set 20 kills.
With the win Holy Cross improves to 3-14 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette falls to 9-8 and 2-3 in the Patriot League.
The Crusaders return to the Hart Recreation Center next weekend, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 15-16, for a two-game homestand against Bucknell on Friday at 7 p.m. and Colgate on Saturday at 4 p.m.
