Worcester, Mass. - On Senior night for the Holy Cross volleyball team, it was only fitting that the seniors led the way in a three-game sweep over the United States Naval Academy in front of a packed house at the Crusaders' Fieldhouse. With the win, Holy Cross picks up its fourth Patriot League victory of the season, and improves to 5-17 overall, 4-6 in league play. Navy drops to 16-8 (4-6).
After a tough loss to American University on Friday night, the Crusaders bounced back and made quick work of the Midshipmen (35-33, 30-17, 30-18).
Senior Caitlin Agostinacchio (Bellmore, NY) led the way for the Crusaders with 16 kills, and 14 digs. With four games remaining, Agostinacchio is just 18 kills shy of the 1,000 mark for her career. Fellow senior Michelle Leahy (Andover, MA) also had a big night, recording 23 assists and 10 digs. With her 23 assists, Leahy surpassed the 3,000-mark for her career.
One of the highlights of the night was senior Suzanna Guidone (Hamden, CT) playing in her first match all season long after suffering a knee injury prior to the 2004 campaign.
Navy was led by Ashley Van Hartesvelt with 11 kills, and Ashley Musser, who recorded 21 assists.
The Crusaders next take the court when they travel to Lafayette on Friday, November 5th for a 7:00 p.m. league match-up with the Leopards.
