WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr., and head coach Chris Ridolfi have announced the 2006 schedule for the Crusader volleyball team. Holy Cross is scheduled to play a total of 25 matches this season, including 11 contests at home.
The Crusaders will open the season on Sept. 1-2, when they take part in the Hartford Invitational, which will include Hartford, Providence and Sacred Heart. Holy Cross then takes on Quinnipiac in its home opener on Sept. 5, before playing host to Army, Buffalo and Rhode Island in the Crusader Classic from Sept. 7-9.
After traveling to Providence on Sept. 13, the Crusaders will take part in the Villanova Invitational from Sept. 15-16, where they will face Maryland-Baltimore County, Sacred Heart and Villanova. The final non-conference match of the season comes on Sept. 20, at home against Central Connecticut State.
Holy Cross will face only Patriot League foes for the remainder of the season, beginning at home against Bucknell (Sept. 22) and Colgate (Sept. 23). Other home dates for the Crusaders come against Lehigh (Oct. 13), Lafayette (Oct. 14), Navy (Oct. 27) and American (Oct. 28). In addition, Holy Cross plays conference road matches at American (Sept. 29), Navy (Sept. 30), Colgate (Oct. 20), Bucknell (Oct. 21), Army (Nov. 4), Lafayette (Nov. 10) and Lehigh (Nov. 11).
The Patriot League Tournament is set for Nov. 17-18, on the campus of the regular season champion. The top four teams in the final regular season standings will take part in the tournament.
The 2006 Crusaders return nine out of 10 players from last year's team, which went 7-19 overall and 3-11 in the Patriot League.
