WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross junior volleyball player Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) has been selected to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I first team, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She was named to the second team last season. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
On the court, Strawson is having another outstanding season as she leads the team in kills (335) and is third in digs (228). Strawson is currently third in the Patriot League in kills per game with 4.14, as she has recorded double-digit kills in 20 of 23 matches with nine double-doubles. Her 335 kills ranks her fourth on the all-time Holy Cross single-season list, while her 902 career kills are second all-time in school history. She has been named to six straight regular season all-tournament teams during the last two seasons.
Academically, Strawson has a 3.91 grade point average as a Biology major and was named the 2005 Patriot League Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year. She is also a two-time member of the Patriot league Academic Honor Roll.
By earning Academic All-District honors, Strawson will now be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team will be announced on Nov. 28.
The Crusaders return to the court on Friday, November 10, when they hit the road to face Lafayette at 7:00 p.m., and then they will conclude the 2006 season at Lehigh on Saturday, November 11, at 4:00 p.m.
