SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Holy Cross men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Bryant on Saturday afternoon for the Nassaney Invitational. Senior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) led the women's team with a seventh place finish of 100 runners and time of 18:23.5. For the men, sophomore Dennis Muldoon (Weymouth, Mass.) was the top Crusader finisher, taking ninth of 59 runners with a time of 15:51.6.
Other top women's finishers in the 5k race included freshman Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) who finished 13th with a time of 18:47.7 and senior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) who took 17th with a time of 19:01.0. Junior Abigail Mitchell (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished back-to-back in 27th and 28th with times of 19:12.8 and 19:14.4, respectively. Freshman Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) rounded out the Holy Cross finishers in the top third of the results, crossing the finish line in 33rd place with a time of 19:20.8.
On the men's side, five other Crusaders recorded top-25 finishes in the 5k race. Sophomore Francisco Tejidor (Coral Gables, Fla.) finished 17th (16:21.7), freshman Henry Dodge (Rumford, R.I.) took 19th (16:23.9), freshman G. Matthew Greco (Blue Bell, Pa.) finished 22nd (16:30.8), senior Nick Petsky (Garden City, N.Y.) finished 24th (16:35.8) and freshman John Bentivegna (Staten Island, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 25th (16:37.3).
The men's and women's cross country teams will return to action Friday, Sept. 20, at the National Catholic Championship in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame.
