The Holy Cross women's cross country team also experienced a successful week as they too participated in the 2008 Blue
Devil Invitational held at Central Connecticut. They defeated New Haven, Northeastern, Rhode Island and Connecticut to
finish first overall with 36 points.
This year's first place victory improves on last year's second place finish. This is also the first time the Holy Cross women
have beaten Connecticut.
Freshman Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) finished second overall in the five-kilometer course in a time of 18:48 to
lead the women. This was Sutherland's first collegiate competition.
Sutherland was followed by senior Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.) who finished third with a time of 18:49, only
one second slower than the second place finish. Senior tri-captain Colleen Spilka (Hamden, Conn.) was next for the
Crusaders finishing in sixth place (19:01), followed by Elizabeth Humphries (Siler City, N.C.) in 11th place (19:26), Sarah
Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) in 14th place (19:35) and Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) in 16th place (19:40).
The Crusaders will return to action on Friday, September 19, when they take part in the National Catholic Championship in
Notre Dame, Ind.
