WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to New Hampshire, 19-4, on Wednesday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-2 overall, while UNH improves to 2-0 overall.

Junior Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored two goals for Holy Cross, while sophomore Meg O'Leary (Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded one goal and two assists for three points and junior Katie Gardner (Garden City, N.Y.) had one goal and one assist.

New Hampshire was led by Sarah Von Bargen's six goals. Ashley Durepo had three goals and one assist for four points, while Michaela Hardy and Shaunna Kaplan each had three goals. Susie Piotrkowski recorded two goals and two assists for four points.

After UNH scored the first four goals of the contest, the Crusaders made it a 4-2 game with two goals of their own. O'Leary found the back of the net off a pass by Gardner, as they then reversed their roles with Gardner scoring off an assist by O'Leary. New Hampshire then closed out the half with six unanswered goals to take a 10-2 lead.

Baird netted the first goal of the second half when she scored on a free-position shot. After UNH scored three straight goals, Baird recorded her second goal of the game. O'Leary earned her second assist of the contest on the goal. New Hampshire then scored the last six goals of the game for the 19-4 final score.

Sophomore goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made six saves in the first half for Holy Cross, while junior Allison Donovan (Saco, Maine) also stopped six shots in the second half. Nikki Hume made four saves to earn the win and improve to 1-0 on the season. UNH outshot the Crusaders, 40-13. New Hampshire picked up 18 ground balls and earned 19 draw controls, while Holy Cross picked up nine ground balls and had six draw controls. UNH went 5-9 on free-position shots and the Crusaders went 1-1.

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Feb. 28, when they travel to Burlington, Vt., to play Vermont at 1:00 p.m.
