Women's Lacrosse Records 15-7 League Victory Over Bucknell

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Taylor Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) scored a career-best five goals and added an assist for a career-best six points, while junior goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) stopped 15 of 22 shots for a career-best .682 save percentage, as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team defeated Bucknell, 15-7, on Saturday at the new Holy Cross Field in Patriot League action. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 3-8 overall (1-2 Patriot League), while the Bison fall to 1-12 overall (0-4 Patriot League).  

Senior Katie Gardner (Garden City, N.Y.) posted two goals and two assists for four points, while junior Annie Boylan (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Catherine Furman (Garden City, N.Y.) each scored two goals. The two goals were a career best for Furman. Senior Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.), senior Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.), sophomore Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and freshman Maddie Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) each had one goal, while junior Cassie Rudden (Hopkinton, Mass.) recorded one assist. Sutton has scored a goal in 23 straight games.

Bucknell was led by Carol Donohue who had two goals and one assist for three points.

The Crusaders scored the first four goals of the game to take a 4-0 lead. After Gardner netted the first goal of the contest, Zebrowski found the back of the net twice in a row and then Boylan scored. With the score now 4-1, Carrellas scored on a free-position shot. After a Bucknell goal, Holy Cross posted five consecutive goals for a 10-2 advantage. Fenton scored off a pass from Gardner, Zebrowski scored unassisted, Sutton scored on a free-position shot, Zebrowski scored again unassisted and then Furman scored off an assist by Gardner. Julia Braun posted a goal with just 12 seconds left in the first half for the Bison to make the score 10-3 going to the half.

Gardner scored her second goal of the game with a goal off a pass from Rudden to increase the lead to 11-3 with 25:39 left in the second half. After a Bucknell goal, Boylan scored and then Furman scored on a free-position shot to make it a 13-4 score. With the score now 13-5, Zebrowski found the back of the net for the fifth time on the day. After another Bucknell goal, Baird scored the last goal of the game for the Crusaders as Zebrowski assisted giving her six points. Donohue scored with nine seconds remaining for the 15-7 final score.

Alyssa DeLorenz made 11 saves for the Bison, while Holy Cross outshot Bucknell, 31-28. The Bison picked up 13 ground balls and the Crusaders had 10, while Holy Cross went 3-6 on free-position shots and Bucknell went 1-7. The Bison earned 12 draw controls and the Crusaders secured 11.

The Crusaders return to action when they play Fairfield in a non-conference game at the new Holy Cross Field on Tuesday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m.
