Women's Lacrosse Falls To Brown, 9-6

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bre Hudgins scored three goals for the Bears as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Brown, 9-6, on Tuesday night at Holy Cross Field in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-5 overall, while the Bears improve to 5-0 overall.

The Crusaders scored the first three goals of the game as senior captain Sara Hennessey (Winchester, Mass.), sophomore Kate Martino (Summit, N.J.) and junior captain Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) each found the back of the net. Sophomore Kaitlin Concilio (Ridgewood, N.J.) assisted on Martino's goal. Hennessey extended her goal scoring streak to 40 straight games. The Bears then responded with two consecutive goals to cut the Crusader lead to 3-2, but Holy Cross then extended its advantage to 5-2 as freshman Maddie Ward (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Avery Giorgio (Madison, Conn.) each netted a goal. Ryan tallied an assist on Giorgio's goal. With just 22 seconds left in the first half, Kerianne Hunt found the back of the net to make it a 5-3 contest going to the half.

Brown then went on to score the first four goals of the second half to move out to a 7-5 lead. After a goal by freshman Tess MacKay (Simsbury, Conn.) on a free-position shot ended the Bears' scoring streak with 14:15 remaining, Hudgins and Grace Healy each netted a goal to post the 9-6 final score.        

Senior goalie Sarah Weber (Summit, N.J.) made six saves as she played the first 50:21 of the game, while senior goalie Maddie Parisi (Westport, Conn.) posted one save. Junior Sophia Agostinelli (Framingham, Mass.) was outstanding defensively as she led the team with four ground balls and six caused turnovers. Kellie Roddy earned the win to improve to 5-0 with eight saves. Brown outshot Holy Cross, 20-19, while the Crusaders picked up 16 ground balls and the Bears posted 12. Brown secured 12 draw controls and Holy Cross tallied five, while the Crusaders went 2-5 on free-position shots and the Bears went 3-6.  

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, March 15 when they host Patriot League opponent American at Holy Cross Field at 4:00 p.m. The game can be viewed on the Patriot League Network.
