  • Both sides played strong defense through the first two innings, as the score remained tied at 0-0. The Leopards got runners on first and third base with one down in the top of the second inning, but the Crusaders ended the frame damage-free on a ground out and a run-down play involving Krisanda, junior third baseman Mandy McCarthy and junior catcher Savannah Young.
  • Then in the bottom of the third inning, Holy Cross broke the tie with a solo homer smashed by Krisanda to left field to give the Crusaders a brief 1-0 advantage.
  • However, Lafayette answered immediately, matching Krisanda's shot over the fence with a solo homer of their own delivered by Brooke Wensel in the top of the fourth inning.
  • The score stayed tied at 1-1 until the Leopards took a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning and refused to look back from there. Holy Cross was unable to respond, as the Crusaders suffered the one-run loss.

The Lead: McCarthy drove in three runs and led the Holy Cross softball team with a .667 batting average, but the Crusaders dropped a 7-5 game two decision to Lafayette to conclude Saturday's action.

  • Lafayette used three hits to take an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the opening inning, however, the Crusaders were quick to respond. Sophomore center fielder Jaclyn Brewster led off the bottom of the first inning with a single hit down the middle before advancing to second base on a wild pitch. Sophomore shortstop Taylor Wahler followed with another base hit for the Crusaders to put Brewster on third base with no outs. McCarthy then picked up her first RBI of the game with a bunt to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The Leopards then regained the lead, plating the next pair of runs on RBI singles during the following two innings.
  • Down 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning, McCarthy hit her third home run of the season to score two runs for Holy Cross and make it a 3-3 game.
  • The score stayed locked up through the fourth inning, but Lafayette used a three-run spurt on two RBI doubles in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead.
  • The Crusaders battled back and rallied right away to close in on the Leopards' lead and make it a one-run game. Wahler led off the bottom half of the fifth inning with a solo homer that sailed over the right field fence. Krisanda then singled to left field before McCarthy doubled to center field. Moss earned the next Holy Cross RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Krisanda and trim the deficit to 6-5.
  • However, the Leopards expanded their lead to two runs in the top of the sixth inning, as the Crusaders were unable to get the edge and took the 7-5 loss.

  • Holy Cross was led by McCarthy who batted .667 and recorded three RBIs and a home run.
  • Hits were 12-8 in favor of Lafayette.
  • Holy Cross left six runners on base, while the Leopards left nine.
  • Entering the game in the fourth inning, sophomore pitcher Alexandra Held notched five strikeouts but allowed the final three earned runs to take the loss for the Crusaders.
  • Pitching the first four innings, Kristyn Marinelli earned the win for the Leopards.

  • Holy Cross is currently in fourth place in the Patriot League, as the top four regular season teams will advance to the Patriot League Tournament.
  • Both McCarthy and Krisanda batted .500 (3-for-6) on the day to lead the team.
  • Moss notched her 65th career RBI, which ranks ninth all-time in the program's history. She leads the team and ranks 10th all-time in the program's history with 23 runs driven in this year.
  • Krisanda is on a nine-game hitting streak, as she recorded her team-leading fourth home run of the season. Her four homers are tied for the fourth-most hit in a single year by any Crusader.
  • Wahler and McCarthy each hit their third home runs of the season. McCarthy has six career homers, while Wahler has five.

  • Holy Cross will host Lafayette for the third game of the series tomorrow at 12:05 p.m., as the Crusaders will honor their two seniors for the final home game of the season.
