WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team earned a 2-0 victory over Rider on Friday afternoon in Worcester. Both teams exchanged scoring chances throughout the first half, but Holy Cross managed to outshoot the Broncs 9-5. The Crusaders notched six shots on goal in that time, but Lena Vandam stopped every shot faced in the first 35 minutes.
In the second half, the Crusaders were able to add pressure and break the scoreless tie in the 49th minute of play. Junior Suzanne Noone put Holy Cross up 1-0 as she tapped in a loose ball behind the goalkeeper. In the 63rd minute, senior Casey Considine found the back of the net with a deflection off a pass from junior Caroline Bono. Rider registered eight shots on goal in the second half, but sophomore Marcia LaPlante stopped every shot she faced.

Holy Cross outshot the Broncs 19-15.
LaPlante totaled 10 saves in goal for the Crusaders.
Lena Vandam stopped 13 shots for Rider.
Connolly totaled 10 shot attempts with eight shots on goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
LaPlante registered the fourth shutout of her career, and has now tallied double-digit saves in all four games this season.
Senior Maureen Connolly has now notched at least one point in four straight games to start the season.
The Crusaders return to action this Sunday, Sept. 10, as they host Georgetown in Worcester at 12:05 p.m.
