WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Temple by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Worcester. The Crusaders added pressure early on, and were the first team on the board in just the seventh minute of play. Maureen Connolly gained the ball on a rebound and scored with a low shot to give Holy Cross the 1-0 lead. The Crusaders outshot the Owls 6-5 in the first half, and carried their one-goal lead into halftime.
Temple came back with a strong second half to gain control of the game. The Owls tied the game up in the 40th minute, as Rachael Mueller scored on a rebound opportunity to make it a 1-1 game. It was also Mueller who put the Owls ahead 2-1, as she found the back of the net with a deflection in front of the net off a pass from the side by Maris Stern. Temple extended its lead in the 64th minute, as Kathryn Edgar tipped the ball from the turf on a penalty corner for a roof shot that helped seal the final score late in the game.
