WORCESTER, Mass. – The Crusaders fell to the Navy Midshipmen Saturday night 3-0. Freshman outside hitter Katie Kerins led Holy Cross with 14 kills (.312 hitting percentage) and seven digs. Freshman setter Kathleen Philo notched 26 assists for the Crusaders, and freshman libero Sophie VanSeveren tallied 20 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set was close between the Crusaders and the Mids. Kerins recorded three kills in the first four points for Holy Cross. The match remained close with Navy leading for most of the set. Philo brought the Crusaders within two points after a kill making the score 18-20. However, Navy was able to keep the lead for the rest of the set winning 25-19.
The Mids controlled the second set and jumped to a 13-8 lead after a Holy Cross attack error. Freshman middle blocker Clare Honan notched a kill making the score 19-24, but the Mids were able to hold on and win the set 25-19.
Holy Cross controlled the third set and led 15-9 after a kill by Honan. The Mids worked back to tie the set 24-24 and eventually took the set 27-25 and the match 3-0.
The Crusaders will face Colgate at home Oct. 7 at 6:05 p.m.
