WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior linebacker Nick McBeath totaled 13 tackles with two tackles for loss, to lead the Holy Cross football team to a 24-10 victory Georgetown at Fitton Field. The Crusaders improve to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Hoyas fall to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in the conference.

Georgetown opened the scoring with a 24-yard field goal by Brad Hurst at the 3:02-mark of the first quarter following a blocked punt. Holy Cross came back with 13 unanswered second quarter points to take a 13-3 advantage at halftime. Senior tailback Gabe Guild scored on a one-yard run, while freshman placekicker Jackson McLarty added field goals of 29 and 31 yards.

In the third quarter, the Hoyas used a 14-yard touchdown pass from Gunther Johnson to Tommy Jesson to make the score 13-10. But the Crusaders then put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard McLarty field goal and a one-yard scoring run by senior quarterback Peter Pujals.



  • Following the contest, McBeath received the Edward N. Anderson Award as the Most Valuable Player of the Crusaders’ Family Weekend game.
  • McBeath was selected also as the Man of the Match presented by the United States Marines, after reaching double-figures in tackles for the fifth time this season.
  • Senior offensive lineman Nick Piker earned the SERVPRO of South Worcester In the Trenches Lineman of the Game award.
  • Piker was part of an offensive line which paved the way for Holy Cross to total 401 yards and 23 first downs on the afternoon.



  • The Crusaders outgained the Hoyas in total yards 401-181, including a 141-0 advantage in rushing yards.
  • Pujals finished the day by hitting on 25 of 38 passes for 257 yards.
  • Senior wide receiver Blaise Bell had a team-best six receptions for 66 yards, while sophomore tailback Domenic Cozier rushed eight times for 55 yards.



  • The 181 yards of total offense by Georgetown were the least allowed by Holy Cross this season.
  • The Crusaders are now just one game out of first place in the Patriot League with two games remaining to play.



  • Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 4, when it travels to Fordham for a 1:00 p.m. game.
