LOWELL, Mass.  – The Holy Cross women’s basketball team downed UMass Lowell for their first win of the season by a 84-56 margin in their first regular season game of the 2017-18 season. Lauren Manis led the Crusaders with 21 points, had three assists and four rebounds. Infiniti Thomas-Waheed added a 19 point effort with four rebounds and one steal.

Holy Cross hit 52.4 percent of its field goal attempts, including a 62.5 field goal percentage in the second and third quarters. The Crusaders made 11 of 27 three-pointers for a 40.7 percentage on the game. Holy Cross forced Lowell to commit 22 turnovers and held its largest lead of the game of 38 points in the fourth quarter.

Tricia Byrne added a 13 point outing, with four rebounds and two assists. Kathryn Pedi shot 3-5 from beyond the arc and led the team with two steals. The River Hawks were led by Paula Lopez, who had 16 points.  


  • Following the contest, Thomas-Waheed was selected also as the Woman of the Match presented by the United States Marines.
  • In addition to her 19 points, she totaled four rebounds and recorded one steal.


  • Despite the River Hawks scoring first, the Crusaders went on an 11-point run to take back the lead and never relinquish it.
  • The Crusaders continued with their exploding offense to close the first quarter with an 11-point lead (23-12).
  • In the second quarter, Holy Cross added to their offense as they took a 29-point lead sparked by a six-point run from Manis.
  • Thomas-Waheed controlled the Crusader offense to close the third quarter, scoring five points to close the third quarter with a 37-point Crusader lead (72-35).
  • Holy Cross closed out the game with a 84-36 lead and their first win of the 2017-18 season.



  • The Crusaders scored over 80 points for the first time since Jan. 6, 2016 at Colgate.
  • The Crusaders recorded 36 points in the paint and 30 points off of turnovers. Lowell only recorded 18 points off of turnovers.
  • The Holy Cross bench posted 31 points in the victory.
