Gibbons Records 600th Win As Crusaders Down Colgate, 61-52, On Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – Head Coach Bill Gibbons recorded the 600th victory of his career, as the Holy Cross women’s basketball team earned a 61-52 win over Colgate on Senior Day at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex.

The Crusaders (11-17, 6-11) were led by sophomore Lauren Manis and senior Tricia Byrne, who each tallied 13 points. Manis earned her ninth double-double of the season by adding 10 rebounds, while Byrne also notched five steals with four boards. Senior Katie Doherty also scored in double-digits, adding 12 points while shooting 5-for-8. Colgate (6-22, 2-15) was led by Tegan Graham, who notched 11 points while shooting 4-for-8. 

The Raiders shot 37.3% (22-59) from the field, while Holy Cross posted 34.5% (20-58) of its field goals. From three-point range, the Crusaders shot 45.5% (10-22), while holding Colgate to 27.8% (5-18). Holy Cross made 73.3% (11-15) of its free throws, as the Raiders shot 42.9% (3-7) from the charity stripe.

WOMAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES

  • Following the game, Byrne was selected as the Woman of the Match presented the United States Marines.
  • She posted 13 points with five steals and four rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colgate got off to a strong start, notching the first eight points of the game. The Crusaders netted eight but entered the second quarter down by five.
  • The Raiders maintained their lead throughout the second, leading by as many as eight points, but Holy Cross cut the deficit to four just before heading into halftime.
  • The Crusaders bounced back in the third quarter, posting a 14-2 run to take control of the lead and outscore Colgate 20-14 in the frame.
  • Holy Cross added more pressure in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 12 points. The Crusaders outscored the Raiders 21-14 in the final frame to secure the victory.

GIBBONS CLAIMS 600TH WIN

  • Gibbons becomes the 21st active Division I Head Coach to reach the 600 win milestone.
  • He is also just the seventh active coach to record 600 wins with one DI program.
  • This was also the 1,000th game of his career as head coach.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Colgate committed nine fouls, while the Crusaders only recorded nine.
  • The Raiders held a narrow advantage in rebounding, 40-37.
  • Holy Cross scored 28 points off the bench while holding Colgate to 19.
