Jackie Brewster To Receive Daniel Allen Sportsmanship Award
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior outfielder Jackie Brewster, a member of the Holy Cross softball team, has been selected as the 2017-2018 winner of the Daniel Allen Sportsmanship Award. Presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Allen Award goes to the player whose unselfish teamwork and dedication to the good of the team reflect the values lived by coach Allen. The winning student-athlete need not be a star or even a starter, but a solid performer with an outstanding attitude whose contributions are not frequently recognized. The award is designed to recognize a student-athlete who is dedicated to the good of the team, possesses integrity, and is a great teammate.
Brewster has started all 32 of the team’s games so far this season, batting leadoff and playing center field. She currently leads the team with a .347 batting average, 10 doubles and 17 runs scored this year. Over the course of her collegiate career, Brewster has played in 105 games, batting .299 with 61 runs scored, 21 doubles and 24 runs batted in.
A member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Brewster serves as the head communion minister with the Holy Cross Chaplain’s Office. She has also been a volunteer with Girls, Inc. and at the Crusaders Against Cancer 5K. Brewster has also been successful in the classroom, being selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in both 2016 and 2017.
Brewster will be presented with the Allen Award at the 63rd annual Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremonial Banquet, to be held on Saturday, April 28, in the Hogan Campus Center. Tickets are still available for the event for only $65.00, and can be purchased by clicking here.
