Barlok Notches Two Saves As Baseball Earns A Pair Of Wins Over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Holy Cross baseball team (14-16, 8-7) earned a pair of victories over Lafayette (13-27, 2-14) on Saturday afternoon on the road.


The Crusaders scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to help lead them to a 2-1 win over the Leopards in game one. Sophomore Austin Masel and Chris Rinaldi both earned a hit and crossed the plate for Holy Cross. Sophomore Colton Hector went 1-for-1 pinch-hitting and drove in both runs for the Crusaders. AJ Kloehn hit 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the offense for the Leopards.

Junior Pat McGowan earned his second win of the season, allowing just one run in 5.2 innings while tossing six strikeouts. Junior Danny Barlok picked up his second save of the year, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings to close out the game. Brett Kreyer took the loss for Lafayette, allowing two runs in six innings and earning eight strikeouts.


  • After two scoreless innings, the Leopards broke the tie with a solo home run by Kloehn to make it 1-0.
  • The Crusaders were held without a hit for the next two innings, before responding in the sixth with a pair of runs on three hits. Holy Cross loaded the bases before Hector pinch hit and hit a single to left field to bring home Masel and Rinaldi to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Barlok took over on the mound in the bottom of the sixth. Following a walk to load the bases for the Leopards, he earned a strikeout to end the inning and keep the Crusaders in the lead.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Barlok forced a line-out and picked up two more strikeouts to earn the save.

Holy Cross earned the doubleheader sweep over Lafayette with a 6-4 victory in game two. Sophomore Jared Enders helped lead the way for the Crusaders’ offense, batting 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Senior Cam O'Neill batted 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sophomores Chris Rinaldi, Riley Livingston and Alex Volpi also crossed the plate for Holy Cross. The Leopards were led by John Marti, who batted 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Trey Durrah hit 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Freshman Liam Dvorak improved to 3-2 on the year with the win, allowing two runs in five innings while adding six strikeouts. Barlok grabbed his second save of the day, pitching two scoreless innings to close out the game. John Cain took the loss for Lafayette, allowing five runs (three earned) in six innings while tossing seven strikeouts.


  • The Leopards got the scoring started with a run in the bottom of the first, then followed up with another run in the second to make it a 2-0 game.
  • The Crusaders got a run back in the third, as freshman Cam Meyer hit an RBI double to bring home Enders.
  • Holy Cross hit an offensive surge in the sixth, bringing home four runs on three hits. O’Neill brought home two runs with a two-run homer over the left field fence. Volpi and Livingston then found their way home off an error from the catcher.
  • Lafayette pulled within one run in the seventh inning, adding two more runs on a pair of hits.
  • Barlok entered the game with the tying run on second base with no outs, and forced the next three batters out without allowing any advances.
  • The Crusaders notched their last run in the ninth, as Enders scored on the result of an error.


  • Holy Cross returns to action tomorrow, April 22, as the Crusaders face Lafayette in the final game of their weekend series in Easton, Pa. at 1:00 p.m.
